Katy Perry Denies Dr. Luke Raped Her In Unsealed Kesha Deposition
November 7, 2020
Kesha‘s legal battle against Dr. Luke continues and now Katy Perry has been dragged into it. In newly-released disposition documents, the “Swish Swish” singer testified that the music producer never raped her, despite Kesha’s text message to Lady Gaga claiming otherwise.
The text to Gaga was sent in 2016 after a judge denied Kesha’s request to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke and his record label. Though the message did not specifically name Dr. Luke, it implied that Katy had been “raped by the same man” who allegedly raped her. But according to the court documents, none of it is true, which Dr. Luke’s camp says suggests that Kesha intentionally tried to spread lies.
Katy – who worked with Dr. Luke on many songs, including her hits “I Kissed a Girl,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Roar” – confirmed that she did not have a “sexual or romantic relationship” with Dr. Luke and in an excerpt of Katy’s deposition from July 21, 2017 (via Variety), she also repeatedly denies the ongoing rumor that he gave her drugs and raped her, too.
Katy, who was under oath, answered questions such as “Did Dr. Luke ever rape you, sexually assault you, and/or give you a roofie? to which she replied “no” to all of them. Then, when asked if the statement that Kesha made about her and Dr. Luke was false, Katy replied, “Yes, ma’am.”
Dr. Luke and his legal team have since released a statement, slamming Kesha for apparently spreading rumors that could have damaged his career.
“The false narrative Kesha created about being raped became widely accepted, damaging Dr. Luke’s reputation irreparably,” the statement read. “Compounding this malicious act, in 2016, Kesha told Lady Gaga that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry, which is outrageous and untrue.”
“Katy Perry testified under oath in this case that Dr. Luke never raped her,” the statement continued, adding that Kesha refused to apologize for the “lies” she spread in 2014. “Instead, she issued a press release which again irresponsibly suggested that Katy Perry was actually raped by Dr. Luke. It seems that Kesha wanted to perpetuate the falsehood that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry.”
Kesha and Dr. Luke’s legal battle first made headlines in 2014 after the singer filed a lawsuit against him alleging that he drugged her and was sexually and mentally abusive towards her during their time working together. Kesha later dropped the lawsuit in August 2016 after she was denied her request to be released from her contract. However, her legal battle with Dr. Luke is far from over.
Dr. Luke is now suing Kesha for defamation, insisting that the “true story” is that Kesha wanted a better contract so her team conspired to “take down his business.” In other words, he claims that her rape accusations and texts to Gaga are all just part of her elaborate scheme.
TBH, all we see is Dr. Luke trying to manipulate Kesha, Gaga, and Katy’s fans by releasing these sealed documents to the public. He’s trying to change the narrative in his favor. However, just because he didn’t drug or rape Katy, doesn’t prove he didn’t do that to Kesha…
