In an interview with Access on Monday, August 27, Ed was asked to divulge details on his wedding plans. Not only did he uncomfortably shrug his shoulders and blush, but he also avoided answering the question and instead pointed to a ring he was wearing on his wedding ring finger.
The interviewer, who took Ed’s response as confirmation that he was already married, then said: “That’s exciting! Congratulations my friend! Congratulations. How did you sneak that one?” to which Ed chuckled and replied, “Well, I never do anything too public anyway.”
Now, this is not technically a confirmation, but come on, it sure seems like it is! If he really didn’t want any of us to know he was married, he would not have reacted that way. Also, if you’re going to dodge a question you don’t want to discuss, do something other than point at your ring finger, Ed!
He’s known to be a private guy, so we’re not that surprised he didn’t want to share his and Cherry’s important day with the public. After all, even his engagement was a secret for a while before he decided to announce the news in January when he penned a sweet message on Instagram.
The couple previously sparked marriage rumors in February when Ed was spotted wearing a ring similar to the one he’s sporting now. However, he later set the record straight in an interview at the 2018 Brit Awards, in which he confirmed he wasn’t married yet. He explained that the new piece of jewelry was actually his engagement ring, which Cherry had made herself. How sweet?
The two also have the best love story ever. Ed first met Cherry when he was 11, but their relationship didn’t turn romantic until the summer of 2015 when they reconnected and had their first date at his good friend Taylor Swift‘s star-studded Fourth of July party — don’t worry, they can afford it!
“I went to Taylor’s 4th of July party. I was texting [Cherry], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’” Ed previously told People. “The rest is history.”
Who knew a party at Taylor’s would result in a lifelong commitment! We’re so happy for Ed and Cherry! Now, more than ever, we can’t wait for him to drop a new album which will unquestionably be filled with the most romantic songs ever.
